I discovered the work of this poet most prosaically; I googled my own name. Turns out I'm already famous in someone else's skin, and more's the pity - there's no prize for second place. He's garnered a slew of accolades (click on his name). However, neither of us probably runs as well as Kevin Young, gold medalist in the 400-meter hurdles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. I read this poem in the hardcopy edition of Poetry magazine. I was thrilled they made it available online so I could lead others to it. My poem about an equivalent subject may someday show up, but this Kevin provokes beyond the event. Thanks. |
